An unexpected turn of events ...

I posted earlier this year about the eldery woman in Spain who tried to restore a painting of Jesus Christ and damaged it beyond repair. Well, in a very intriguing, unexpected turn of events this woman, artist Cecilia Gimenez, has "lawyered up" and is seeking royalities from the fees church owners are making from charging visitors to view the work. Apparently, within four days of the images of Cecilia's "restoration" going viral on the web, the Church in which the work exists made $2 600 from visitors wanting to see the now infamous work. Apparently, the Church has also hired lawyers to protect its revenue.

Truly I don't think I could have found a more interesting article that mixes my two interests in life - Art and Law! Personally, I find Cecilia's quest for royalities insulting and insensitive. She effectively ruined, beyond repair, a fresco which is iconic and, within the artistic world at least, of great significance. She should not be able to benefit from this.
